Kids are amazing, and I’m convinced we’re gifted with them to teach us life’s biggest lessons. To feel those nerves and know you have to overcome because your voice is too important to stay silent.Īnd so I share it with you, to honor her voice. This is what it looks like to be unmuted- to value your voice and talents in the world. “I felt really good when I went on stage.” She said she found a quiet place and worked on her breathing to calm herself. She decided her voice was more important than the nerves. She’s been working with her voice coach on this in preparation for some international exams. This is the first time she’s tried opera. Normally she likes to sing metal and pop (and wear lots of black eyeliner). “I really had to control my nerves in a different way so you couldn’t hear it in my voice.” The reason I’m sharing this here (other than being a proud mama), is because of what she told me afterwards. My husband and I don’t have a musical bone in our bodies, yet somehow we produced this amazing kid. Other than 2 drunk karaoke sessions long before cameras were in mobile phones (thank goodness) I have never stood on a stage and sung.
